5.6 Winchester
Drama, Mystery & Suspense, Science Fiction & Fantasy
Inspired by true events. On an isolated stretch of land 50 miles outside of San Francisco sits the most haunted house in the world. Built by Sarah Winchester, (Academy Award (R)-winner Helen Mirren) heiress to the Winchester fortune, it is a house that knows no end. Constructed in an incessant twenty-four hour a day, seven day a week mania for decades, it stands seven stories tall and contains hundreds of rooms. To the outsider it looks like a monstrous monument to a disturbed woman's madness. But Sarah is not building for herself, for her niece (Sarah Snook) or for the troubled Doctor Eric Price (Jason Clarke) whom she has summoned to the house. She is building a prison, an asylum for hundreds of vengeful ghosts, and the most terrifying among them have a score to settle with the Winchesters...

  • I am going to be honest about this film. I loved it. It had a intriguing and fascinating storyline. It reminded a lot of films like The Lady in Black, Rose Red and The Haunting. The reason I found the story to be intriguing is because this place exists and so did key character like Sarah Winchester. I think horror and thrillers always get bad reviews because it's not to everyones taste but for fans like me, it was entertaining. Less and less thrillers and horrors are getting made and it's nice to see top rated actors act in a thriller instead of a superhero film. It was really great to see a film like this come out. It was refreshing to be honest. The film truly brings you into it and that's what makes it 5 stars for me. It also helps that it has top rated actors within it.

  • It was never going to be a classic, the story is pretty okish for a ghost movie, acting is capable for a horror movie, again it wasnever going to be a classic or win any academy awards. There are some creepy moments, enough to satisfy the genre lovers but lets be honest there has not beena truly terrifying horror since the first conjuring movie. I would definitely recommend this for the genre lovers, it moves at a good pace so wont keep you bored.

  • A haunting movie about a true life event set back in the late 1800s that will leave you wondering about this little mystery tale of truth or fiction. 4/5.

  • As a big fan of the historical house, I was excited to see this movie. Although it was definitely entertaining, the accuracy may have been a little off. Nonetheless, it was worth seeing it in theaters.

  • If you are familiar with American History and American ghost stories, The Winchester House should be at the top of that knowledge. This movie was exactly what I expected. The story of the house that spirits built. Helen Miriam was, as always, top notch. It could have had more story, but it left open for sequels, which I would love to see. Don't go into it with a political view, it's not political in any way. It's a movie meant to tell a story about a famous haunted house.

  • I was really impressed By this movie. I went into it expecting a dud and was pleasantly surprised. Good acting, nice effects, and THE story STICKS somewhat true to the original. I toured this house as a young child. It brought back tons of memories.

  • It's much better than many others who attempted to cover the unusual subject. It is not documentary, it's entertaining and does a great job. Aside from that, it is true. The truth here is on a more spiritual level. It is not fiction. All portrayed is real and did take place. With this knowledge please understand that it's about deeper issues than a thriller or horror. Now, rottetomatoes lost all its credibility. They sold their soul. I won't go into details of this deal, but this movie did actually a pretty good introduction to a cost of a sin. If you think karma is a bitch wait until you die!Message to rotten: you can't stop this. People will find a way to srcew you, Hollywood bastards, as you screw them.

  • Great understanding of Sara Winchesters history and possible idea of her being a medium. I really liked this movie! I was shocked at the low rating? It deserves way more credit for sure.

  • A old curse hangs over the fortuned old house of the famed Winchester repeating rifle empire, whose property is overseen by the eldest Winchester (played decently by Dame Helen Mirren). A psych doctor is called to check on her mental acuity ... maybe the old bird is bonkers, yeah? But no. The house is haunted, and haunted indeed. And you get a decent time at the flickers, yeah?
