6.8 Tomb Raider
Drama, Action & Adventure, Science Fiction & Fantasy
Lara Croft is the fiercely independent daughter of an eccentric adventurer who vanished when she was scarcely a teen. Now a young woman of 21 without any real focus or purpose, Lara navigates the chaotic streets of trendy East London as a bike courier, barely making the rent, and takes college courses, rarely making it to class. Determined to forge her own path, she refuses to take the reins of her father's global empire just as staunchly as she rejects the idea that he's truly gone. Advised to face the facts and move forward after seven years without him, even Lara can't understand what drives her to finally solve the puzzle of his mysterious death. Going explicitly against his final wishes, she leaves everything she knows behind in search of her dad's last-known destination: a fabled tomb on a mythical island that might be somewhere off the coast of Japan. But her mission will not be an easy one; just reaching the island will be extremely treacherous. Suddenly, the stakes couldn't be higher for Lara, who--against the odds and armed with only her sharp mind, blind faith and inherently stubborn spirit--must learn to push herself beyond her limits as she journeys into the unknown. If she survives this perilous adventure, it could be the making of her, earning her the name tomb raider.

  • I blame my own expectations for the low score and I want a sequel.

  • The movie follows the video game reboot very closely at times but still has it's own story. Acting is good, characters are interesting, CGI is great. What else could you ask for? I really enjoyed watching tomb raider. I'm looking forward to a sequel.

  • I liked it, was I expecting some monumental, emotionally moving film? No, I expected some action, some tomb/ruins exploration and some end of the world premise and all that was delivered. Movies like this are made to entertain us for a couple hours and I was entertained so job well done!

  • Overall very enjoyable.. Yes there are some clichés and a relatively. Simple plot.. However Alicia Vikander does a great job or reinventing the Tomb Raider character.

  • The first tomb raider movie starring Angelina Jolie was just a fun guilty action movie. This reboot which stars Alicia VIkander is much better and more grounded than the original. Vikander is great and so is most of the cast. What weighs the movie down is some issues with the storytelling and it doesn't have a very compelling villain. In terms of video game adaptations, this one ranks among the best. Which really isn't saying much.

  • Slow to start but a great show.

  • How to deliver a film based on a video game known for its lust appeal, physicality, and some few puzzles to figure out? Well, this is more than simply a decent attempt, that's yards better than the previous one. Vikander provides the charisma aplenty and the action fully engages the physicality of the video games. Interestingly, the "little girl looking for her long lost Dad" angle was possibly the weakest element here. Felt like the second one would be better somehow.

  • Interesting balance between the game and reality. The young undeveloped Lara shows promise for further adventure. Lots of nods to fast paced action scenes from the game. As an origin story is does lack pace at times. Made up for by physical and mental progression of Lara throughout.

  • I enjoyed my time with Tomb Raider 2018, even among its glaring issues. the film was deluded with character issues. The story is extremely weak, but i couldn't help but enjoy my time with this film. I hope it gets a sequel, but i would like it more if lara's character and the other's in this film were actually important. Lara seemed to have unrealistic wounds that she recovered from without any trouble. 6/10 While i won't be buying on Blu-Ray, i may watch it again in few years time.

  • Went in with low expectations as was pleasantly surprised. Fast paced and gritty. A few action scenes felt a little fake, but other than that, a solid 2 hours.
