A gripping true story of incredible bravery against impossible odds, The Siege of Jadotville thrillingly depicts the 1961 siege of a 150-strong Irish UN battalion under Commander Patrick Quinlan (Jamie Dornan) by 3,000 Congolese troops led by French and Belgian mercenaries working for mining companies. Guillaume Canet plays a French commander who sought to defeat Quinlan and his men.

  • The politicians scheme and the soldiers do.the dirty work. It's how it is and there are stories to be told as a consequence. This one is told better than most. A largely ignored bit of history finally bought into the light.

  • This war movie is based on a little incident in 1960's which most of us don't know about, that it happened and the conclusion of this true story is hard to believe. The movie has actual full-fledged battle engagement, not like the special ops movie we get nowadays. We get to see bravery and realistic action, one of the best parts is the suspense on what's going to happen to these guys right until the end. Good Watch.

  • Most of these "reviews" are laughable at best. Pedantic chatter that ignores the utter realism of the soldier/actors in battle. The time spent on "boot camp" for the cast was well spent, their weapons handling was very believable (at least to this US Marine) . And liberal cries about ignoring context and the plight of those Congolese effected fall on deaf ears to me. This was not a movie about the entire conflict, it was a movie about a small and forgotten band of soldiers. If you wanted to complain about anything, it would be the lack of attention to the assassination of the UN Secretary general, which at the time was a big deal. But I guess none of you are well read enough to know that.

  • I saw a review that the battle scenes were scompelling but the non-battle scenes not so much. I agree as some were bland but others moved the story well. Overall a good movie that we recommend.

  • Brilliant! Don't even bother reading the comments made by the so called critics, who we're obviously in a different cinema watching a different movie whilst this film was taking place. Every so often a war movie comes out showing the real events that took place, that had been covered up, or that we were just unaware of. A terrible cover up, due to politics, and recognition that came, but all too late.

  • Gripping because it is based on a true story... Unbelievable leadership - not a single Irish soldier lost his life in a 5-day siege!

  • Incredibly solid historical drama/action film. Educational, in the sense that I learned something new and came away wanting to know more.I've not the eye for minor deviations, but the period dress and equipment all look superb and perfectly authentic, and a great blend of practical and CGI effects. It feels real, and puts you on edge. Some deep themes on geopolitics and the pointlessness of the Cold War if you want to read in that far.Won three awards at the Irish Film & Television Awards (best director, best supporting actor, best VFX) and it's easy to tell why.

  • The Siege of Jadotville is a quietly respectful tribute to the soldiers of a little known battle in the lush landscape of the Congo. What it lacks in boldness and depth, Jadotville compensates with punchy action sequences and well-rounded casting.

  • The action scenes are pretty good. The story is kind of confusing because it goes back and forth between the men on the ground and the politicians. Overall it's a pretty good siege movie and does a good job of making you care about the outcome of the soldiers.

  • Such an interesting story! Who knew? So glad these brave guys were finally recognized. What a story! Filled with tense action, Irish humor and the never-say-die Irish attitude. Great special effects.

  • Very good movie. I would really like to see more movies based on true stories that don't try to force a political spin on us or degrade religion.

  • I expected nothing and received a good pace and storytelling. The bad guys weren't one-dimensional bad and the good guys were only heroic because of the impossible situation. Not typical flat Hollywood storytelling at al. Great movie for people that would have enjoyed movies like "Black Hawk down".
