A film editor with wooden fingers becomes the prime suspect in a series of gruesome murders in this outrageous homage to the Italian giallo films of the 1970s and '80s. Rey Ciso (co-director Adam Brooks) used to be one of the world's best film editors. But that was before the accident that robbed him of all four fingers on his right hand. Subsequently outfitted with a wooden prosthetic, Rey now toils away editing lurid genre films in Italy. Rey seems to have reached the end up his rope when a sadistic killer begins stalking the cast of the latest film he's editing. Now, Rey must race to prove his innocence to the detective (co-director Matthew Kennedy) who seems to have his number. Meanwhile, should the besieged editor fail to catch the killer soon, he could end up becoming the next victim.

  • I want to hate this film but I also want to like it....it's honestly hard to judge this one. It's good and bad at the same time.

  • I usually do not care for most films shot in an overly "retro" style. Often, they overplay their hand and seem to forced. 2015's "The Editor" is a parody of Italian giallo films from the 70's and 80's - but it is so spot on that it avoids most of the pitfalls of retro films and is quite enjoyable. The attention to detail is pretty amazing: the lighting, the acting, the music, the plot, and especially the audio quality (distinctive flat dubbing) all feel authentic while still managing to poke gently fun at the genre. Well worth a look, especially if you are fan of giallo.

  • If you've watched way, WAY too much '70s Italian gialli movies than can possibly be good for your mental health, then you'll recognize that this piece of Astron-6 lunacy is a knowing, loving, hilarious, on the nose spoof. BUT if you're not familiar with directors like Bava, Fulci, Margheriti, Martino, Cavara, Crispino, and Deodato, then you'll probably see this film as a random, sadistic, incoherent incomprehensible mess. In other words--it's exactly like "classic" giallo!

  • I really liked this movie. I what I loved most about this movie is the soundtrack and the lighting. I thought that was amazing and made this movie really unique. Like your watching an 80's flick. Though, I also disliked some of the aspects from the movie such as the randomness and the plot. That's my two main issues of the movie. The plot was kind of sloppy. In addition to the acting as well. Overall I thought that this was an enjoyable movie that will most likely make audiences love it or hate it.

  • The Editor pays terrific homage to the Giallo genre, doubling down on inventive gore and offering some truly gruesome moments. The affair felt wholly original, and it's worth the few watches it takes to take it all in.

  • Another great hilarious horror genre comedy from Astron 6.They really got everything from the tone right down to the music to feel like a 80's horror Italian slasher flick. So many great shots that pay tribute to great genre films. In fact the only flaw i could really see is if you haven't seen any giallos a lot of the jokes and references you just won't get.

  • Funny, bloody and extremely accurate spoof of tacky giallo cinema that mostly subverts its on subject matter.

  • Fun because of it's over the top cheese, but it could have been improved upon. Overall, it's a decent flick.

  • Good stuff here. Nice homage piece to the 1970's exploitation films. Great use of practical makeup effects. A pretty cool and unique story. I highly recommend this one.

  • The Editor is a film made for a very specific audience. If you've never seen any Italian giallo films from directors like Dario Argento or Mario Bava then you'll probably wonder what the hell is going on the entire time. I've never heard of Astron 6 before, but these guys have created a wonderfully hilarious tribute to the genre. Intentionally bad dubbing, excessive gore, colourful lighting, stylized camerawork and an atmospheric electronic score. If you've never seen any Argento, a lot of the humour and references will go over your head, but the horror elements still work quite well. It loses a little steam in the third act when the jokes and script start to become a little too silly. Aside from that, The Editor is an extremely stylish, funny, gory homage to giallo that fans will want to check out immediately.

  • Nice. It was like watching an Argento movie that's intentionally bad. That's the only factor that kept me entertained, I guess...well...aside from the hilariously (good)bad gore! I got a little bored towards the end but it finished well. I'd recommend it, with asterisks.

  • Picture, if you will, Quentin Dupieux tasked with making a giallo. This is basically what you'd get. One wacky throwback
