  • Spotty accents aside, the depressing tone is its only downside.

  • Definitely better than the 50% critics' rating! It's got decent direction (esp. for a debut) and the acting is actually pretty good by all, with Considine the stand-out even though it's an understated role for him. Only thing that lets it down is the pacing and probably the plot wanders a bit more than you want from a 'thriller'. The sort of film that's really great if you just happen upon it without expectation, but not probably quite up to par for an evening-in's main feature.

  • This movie is just another hidden gem from HBO. It is a little slow to start, but this is probably the darkest comedy ( and funniest in a twisted way) that you will ever see. Paddy Considine plays the lead in a character that you can tell would normally be an awkward nerd, but forced by extreme circumstances to do what he must to save his family.

  • Timely film about radiation, selling fissionable material on the black market and Russian mafia.

  • Very good, overlooked film with a darkly comic, clever, socially ironic script

  • Really great movie, and despite the title, you do not have to be a nuclear physicist to watch it!

  • Very interesting movie, and I think a fairly good portrayal of life in russia I supposed. I don't know much aobut it myself, but it seems very realistic. Good acting, good story. It felt a bit long, but overall I liked it.

  • (***): Thumbs Up Well-acted but it just doesn't quite meet the great category due to it tediousness/pace at times. Marginal thumbs up.

  • Considering how important Russia is, and how many movies Hollywood made about it during the Cold War, it's amazing that we don't see more of Moscow. This film is part drama and part detective story. It shows the ugly underside of everyday life for a mid-level technician and various gangsters. The mafia gets an unflattering but not too unsettling portrait (if you can't stomach violence). The narration provided a pleasant surprise, where the main character uses physics to create analogies for various experiences he has throughout the film, and he does so with a measure of poetry. George Clooney, please do produce more films like this!

  • Interesting story about how life may be like in Russia. Not to generalize based on one movie, but I can imagine there are parts just like it. Sad.

  • this is a slow-paced movie, but the end the messages stated by padd considine are very deep. i like the intertwining stories even though they don't seem to mesh well. but everything about the movie should be understood not directly, but from the undertones of everything about it. anyone know the name of the song in the end credits? i really like it and can't find it on the internet
