6.2 Pacific Rim Uprising
Drama, Action & Adventure, Science Fiction & Fantasy
John Boyega (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) stars as the rebellious Jake Pentecost, a once-promising Jaeger pilot whose legendary father gave his life to secure humanity's victory against the monstrous "Kaiju." Jake has since abandoned his training only to become caught up in a criminal underworld. But when an even more unstoppable threat is unleashed to tear through our cities and bring the world to its knees, he is given one last chance to live up to his father's legacy by his estranged sister, Mako Mori (Rinko Kikuchi)-who is leading a brave new generation of pilots that have grown up in the shadow of war. As they seek justice for the fallen, their only hope is to unite together in a global uprising against the forces of extinction. Jake is joined by gifted rival pilot Lambert (The Fate of the Furious' Scott Eastwood) and 15-year-old Jaeger hacker Amara (newcomer Cailee Spaeny), as the heroes of the PPDC become the only family he has left. Rising up to become the most powerful defense force to ever walk the earth, they will set course for a spectacular all-new adventure on a towering scale. Pacific Rim Uprising is directed by Steven S. DeKnight (Netflix's Daredevil, STARZ's Spartacus) and also stars Jing Tian, Burn Gorman, Adria Arjona and Charlie Day.

  • Very enjoyable battle sequence but feels like something missing in the story arch that has gapping plot holes.

  • Another great action movie from the Hollywood machine. Yes, if you are looking for a french sub-titled movie, don't go. If you are looking to be entertained in this genre, then go for it! Great cast, great story that continues the thread. WARNING: You should see the first one to fully understand this one.

  • Glad I didn't look at the ratings here at RT before going to see it. It's not a 5-star movie but it's certainly not a 3-star movie either. Special effects were super, storyline could have had more oomph to it yet it still kept us on the edge of our seat throughout. Scott Eastwood looks and acts so much like his dad. Good casting choice! 4.5 starts, half a star comes just because Scott had a leading role. Hope he gets to be Scott Horvath ithe Brad Thor movie series which hopefully will spawn from Lions of Lucern. His dad is THE MAN!

  • Even though it did not have flare like the first movie. It still had enough action and something original in it by having a jaeger vs another jaeger.

  • I loved it. I thought it was really well done. At times the acting was a bit rough. But who goes to this movie for the actors right? We want to see the spectacular fight scenes with giant badass robots vs giant monsters. This movie delivers those fights scenes for sure. My biggest fear is that the popularity of this movie won't justify the making of number 3. Which is a giant shame to a fan like myself and many others. Number 3 is sure to have tons of promise. Hopefully they get the chance to make it. I know I'm 150% invested in this franchise and so are my friends and family.

  • We thought this was a blast. The dialogue was fairly realistic, which I appreciated (think more like The Orville vs Star Trek), and the script tackled the issue of continuity head-on, closing any potential holes/questions. Sure, the first one was a better movie, but this was pretty great in its own right. Why do so many critics find fault? Well, the only thing I can say is that not every great movie is a 4 hour long epic or have transcendingly deep characters- sometimes a great movie is a simple and well told story. This was 100% on target, and we hope they make a 3rd.

  • If you're looking for a bigger version of Reel Steel this is just for you. The movie is a fun action packed movie. Allthough its just as good as the first one, it does deliver.

  • Pacific Rim Uprising takes everything that Transformers fails at entertainment, and plays it exactly how you want to see a giant robot vs monster movie, like one you can actually follow. John Boyega is also a great star in the making, as he carries the lead role with the charm that the 90's had with someone like Will Smith.

  • The first part ,it was way better. Second part the story ,it's kind of swell. Quite good special effects, but that's all

  • it is a much better fiction movie than generally perceived, but it goes a great distance in showing how much damage mediocre sound/music effects could do to a movie..!Compare sound effects in the trailer to those in the actual movie, so you can appreciate what I mean.

  • Rate 1-5 star. Just to give you some perspective. If you like Giant Robot fighting each other or fighting Kaiju rate this a 5 star if you like a musical number with chicks doing ballet then rate it 1 star. Guess what kind of movie fan I am? For comparison, It is definitively better than the last Transformers. Comparing it to the first Pacific Rim, I had to say the first one is a tad bit better. I did enjoy the film from start to finish. I like the robots and I like Scrapper the most, who doesn't like the underdog, right. Story-wise and character-wise, It feels a little bit like watching an anime tv series like voltest v or robotech (Macross). In terms of how the Amara and Jake came to join the Jaeger corps, but I hope they focus more that way. The director should improve the writing and the flow of the story better the next time. The effects are top notch. I would like very much to see a third installment.

  • This is to Pacific Rim what Jaws 2 is to Jaws, it lacks the artistry of the original.
