This inspiring tale recounts the story of a young Dolly Parton and how her family coped with drought, poverty and death in Tennessee's Smoky Mountains during the 1950s. Alyvia Alyn Lind plays the future country music superstar as a young girl, while Ricky Schroder and Jennifer Nettles co-star as Dolly's parents.

  • To paraphrase something Parton once said about herself: It may look fake, but it's real where it counts. What counts most is the acting, which lends the story a naturalism that the script can't.

  • Family. Laughing together and grieving together.A television film that I was eager to watch it since it is highly acclaimed. It is a Christian film, which won't mind, but they have highlighted that topic too strongly. What I've anticipated was something like 'Love Comes Softly'. Since it went on that way, missed the opportunity to be balanced in content. Now it is a target product for the believers. If you won't mind that, then it will be a good film that shows lots of good sides by pointing out the bads.Based on the true story, that sets in the 1955, tells the story of a big farmer family living on the mountain, but all the focus was one of the children named Dolly. She's different than rest of her siblings. She's curious about the world, so mischievous and a good singer too. Her latest trouble takes a big price. Following, the family in a distress, that's going to change a few things forever in her life and everybody else.First of all I know zero about the real Dolly Parton. Thanks to this film for her early life introduction, but still don't know much about her latter life. So expecting from the sequels to cover them up. For now, there's only one sequel, about the Christmas. Alyvia was really good. She reminded Abigail Breslin from 'Kit Kittredge'. The film mainly aimed for families, so they would surely enjoy it. I liked it too, but not that overexcited as before my watch.6/10

  • Okay, so this one has its charms, but it also has some sickly sweet treacle in there as well that makes some of the precocious bits harder to handle. I mean, I get that it's about Dolly Parton herself, but she's a bit frustrating as the smartest person in the room at any given time, to the point that you have to kinda roll your eyes when she starts pontificating on any subject that pops into her head. So, a tad self-serving, but charming overall?Rental?

  • Dolly Parton's Coat of Many Colors: Yes, it's a corny, preachy, faith-based, tear-Inducing, saccharine, romanticized story of Dolly Parton's upbringing in a poor family in Tennessee - and it's absolutely wonderful, brimming with hope and genuineness where it counts. A

  • An excellent movie for the entire family. Outstanding performance by eight-year-old Alyvia Alyn Lind. Also excellent supporting cast, especially singer Jennifer Nettles. Buy this DVD for future generations of family viewing.

  • I never thought that Dolly Parton had a rough childhood, and look how she turned out to be! Coat of Many Colors is one of my favorite Dolly Parton songs, and now i understand why it's also her favorite. The story was beautiful, Dolly's coat was beautiful, all the actors were good and Lind was wonderful. Anything is possible in the name of Jesus Christ and the Lord God Almighty.

  • Cute movie, nothing over the top, nothing fantastic about it..it's just your basic faith based storytelling of the upbringing of Dolly Parton. Jennifer Nettles does a pretty good portrayal of some sort of Dolly's mom, Rick Schroder steps his game up a bit as Dolly's dad. But the real spotlight is on the youngster herself Alyvia Alyn Lind portraying Dolly as a youth. If you're a Young & The Restless fan then you already seen her acting skills as Faith Newman. Here's a cool fact, an actual family member of the Partons is in the movie Stella Parton is her name and she plays a character named Corla Bass.. Farrah Mackenzie plays the character of Stella Parton.. Again it's a cute movie to watch on a rainy day maybe having Dolly Parton music playing low in the background..

  • Very good. Even though I cried through pretty much the whole thing. I can forgive the HEAVY religious tones, unlike some other reviews, because that is how they lived. If you discount this story because of that, I guess it's your loss.
