  • 4.5/5 Absolutely fabulous scary movie and ultimately very moving. Martin Freeman puts the whole cast of Walking Dead to shame.

  • Absolutely stunning performance from Martin Freeman... Took this character and made him flawed and loveable by showing weakness and strength in tandem while the writing was so so relatable on a wider scale. I loved it

  • A believable, nuanced performance from Martin Freeman, an affecting script, and the epic setting of the Australian outback, ensure Cargo avoids Not Another Zombie Movie syndrome.

  • There is something undeniably captivating about Cargo, Martin Freeman's character has a believable dedication only matched by that of the actor playing him and his commitment to the role. The vast, desolate outback of Australia makes for a beautiful yet haunting backdrop for the film. Though this is not the first of its kind and certainly not the last, Cargo is an intense and well-made film.

  • Loved this movie. It hit all the right notes for a person not really interested in zombie movies (except Shaun of the Dead). Beautifully filmed, poignant, Freeman was fantastic, but the heart of the film is what truly did it for me. I wept a lot--a really great cry.

  • Pleasant surprise for a Netflix original. I like Martin Freemand and I love zombie apocalpyse settings. Throw in the Australian outback and it's hard to go wrong here. The film relies much more on a character-driven story than shock and horror, though there are several nerve-wracking moments for undead aficionados. The inclusion of a "timer" device reminding victims how long they have left before they "turn" is a nice twist and helps propel the story forward, while maintaining a constant sense of impending doom.

  • Decent zombie thriller that doesn't add much to the genre but the fascinating setting of the australian outback. The plot has pretty unsettling and uncomfortable parts, but only little gore or action. Instead, an infected father's search for a safe harbor for his infant is character driven and relies on the atmosphere and the setting. That works and is entertaining enough, but considering the protagonists fate is sealed from early on it's not exactly a nail biter.

  • An enjoyable, if uninventive take on the zombie genre, Cargo sees non-accented Martin Freeman staggering around the curiously shaded Australian Outback with his infant daughter following the recent zombification of his wife, a fate he will soon endure himself. With few characters and spare dialogue, we don't get to know much about the people we meet, aside from who is good and who is bad, and the line is about as clearly drawn as you can get. The threat of being attacked by zombies is significantly downgraded in the Outback, since there's very few people there to begin with, but the movie is seemingly more interested in human villains, demonstrating the capacity our species has for being selfish and stupid, even as the world around them is collapsing. Freeman gives an understated performance, and the Directing style is very reminiscent of, ironically enough, The Hobbit/Lord Of The Rings movies, with the camera swooping over every hill and tree the crew can find. It's certainly not a bad film, and I enjoyed watching it. It just doesn't have a lot to say, and little to distinguish it from the plethora of other, better zombie films.

  • Martin Freeman shines in this Netflix newest flick, taking advantages of its freshness in regards of the zombie sub-genre, with neat and careful direction towards the already cliché narrative of the "father against adversity" perspective, giving a fresh air-breath towards the already tired streaming service entries, and revealing potential rising director-stars, Yolanda Ramke and Ben Howling, never mind the film's lack of exploitation towards its potential.

  • If you're looking for a zombie horror movie with a lot of death and gore, you're probably gonna be bored at this movie because it's more of a drama/thriller set in a zombie apocalypse, but I thought it was pretty effective and Martin Freeman's performance makes it better.
