CALL ME BY YOUR NAME, the new film by Luca Guadagnino, is a sensual and transcendent tale of first love, based on the acclaimed novel by André Aciman. It's the summer of 1983 in the north of Italy, and Elio Perlman (Timothée Chalamet), a precocious 17- year-old American-Italian, spends his days in his family's 17th century villa transcribing and playing classical music, reading, and flirting with his friend Marzia (Esther Garrel). Elio enjoys a close relationship with his father (Michael Stuhlbarg), an eminent professor specializing in Greco-Roman culture, and his mother Annella (Amira Casar), a translator, who favor him with the fruits of high culture in a setting that overflows with natural delights. While Elio's sophistication and intellectual gifts suggest he is already a fully-fledged adult, there is much that yet remains innocent and unformed about him, particularly about matters of the heart. One day, Oliver (Armie Hammer), a charming American scholar working on his doctorate, arrives as the annual summer intern tasked with helping Elio's father. Amid the sun-drenched splendor of the setting, Elio and Oliver discover the heady beauty of awakening desire over the course of a summer that will alter their lives forever.

  • I passed by this movie many times until one day I decided to give it a try and I am so glad I did. This movie has now become my favorite movie, one in which I can watch and have watched over and over. The acting is so extraordinary by every single character that you feel as though its real and find yourself wanting to live in this movie. The love that builds between Elio and Oliver happens in a gradual, unforced, natural way and you feel it as the movie progresses. This movie has nothing at all to do with two men, or a young boy and a man, and has everything to do with connection between two souls regardless of age or gender (without judgment) which made me love this movie even more. It was beautiful and pure and you can relate to it no matter who you are or what you believe. The scenery is breathtaking and the music exquisite. I have never had a movie pull me in and feel every expression or action from the actors in such an authentic or personal way. Innamorato

  • Timothee Chalamet delivers an extraordinary performance in "Call Me by Your Name", a deeply moving love story. Luca Guadagnino's latest film is a gorgeous coming-of-age story that is beautifully shot, powerfully acted and sharply written. It is not easy to adapt a beloved novel to the big-screen, but the director pulls this off with ease. With the help of a talented cast, he has crafted an unforgettable film about a gay romance. It is honest, authentic and grounded in reality that is rare to see in films nowadays. Although the film suffers slightly from an overlong running time, it is hard to not be swept away by "Call Me by Your Name". At a time when gay love stories are a rarity in Hollywood, films like this deserve to be seen and celebrated.

  • This film is beautiful. The two lead actors, Timothee Chalamet and Armie Hammer, do a tremendous job at conveying such raw emotion in every scene they are in. The director of this movie, Luca Guadagnino, does great work from behind the camera. The music in this film also is beyond well-done, perfectly matching the scenes they play in. This film feels so real and so grounded, that it is easy to root for our two leads in their journey through first love. Though the movie may be too long for the casual film fan, I found every second of this film entertaining. I love this movie, and I hope you will as well.

  • Such a joy to watch, the performances were on point. Guadagnino managed to pick the perfect locations, perfect music, (again) perfect cast, perfect atmosphere. Creating, in my opinion, movie magic.

  • A beautiful film, and certainly not a surprise to Guadgnino fans. The filmmaker has a special way of framing and directing emotions, which without ever getting too close, convey the intangible beauty of intimacy between people who truly love each other. Contrary to popular opinion, I prefer Hammer's performance, even though Chalamet's physicality is undoubtedly something to behold. Still, this is Stuhlbarg's show.

  • This movie was so beautiful and real and every damn actor was so amazing and the performance was outstanding and everything was presented in such a real and relatable way. It made me so emotional and the ending seemed unsatisfying but it was real. It's the realest movie I've seen in a long time.

  • Chalamet and Armie Hammer's onscreen chemistry is undeniably strong. One could see the homage to EM.Foster/Ivory & Merchant throughout the film, but it never fell to maudlin sentimentalism. Its autobiographical and meaningful in so many ways (to me), and the end of film father-and-son conversation is tastefully done, not deliberate. Its one of my favorite films of 2018 and will easily enter the pantheon of queer culture films as a must-see.
