Inspired by the real life of singer/songwriter Alyssa Robbins, BECKS follows a musician (Hall) who moves back to her childhood home in St. Louis after a crushing breakup with her longtime girlfriend (Kiyoko). While performing for tips at a local tavern and struggling to reconnect with her ultra-Catholic mother (Lahti), she strikes up a unique friendship with the wife (Suvari) of an old nemesis. Becks begins to discover her musical voice as she performs deeply personal songs about her ex and the loss of their relationship. Driven by an original score, the film's musical numbers bring a unique new voice to the American musical movie.

- Lena Hall, the Tony Award winner who plays the title character, brings poignancy and passion to this music-filled film, while Christine Lahti and Mena Suvari add phenomenally nuanced and entertaining dimension. Based on a true story, the movie feels real and relatable. It's a well-written, well-performed reminder that love is love, and a broken heart is a broken heart.Reply

- 2017 has been a great year for independent cinema. The best example I have for this argument is that one of the year's best films, Becks, has not received the notoriety it's deserved. While films such as Get Out and Ladybird more than deserve the praise they get, Becks is certainly in their tier. Its editing, screenplay, and music are among the best you'll find, and the acting of the lead - Lena Hall in a career-turning performance - is phenomenal. Daniel Powell and Elizabeth Rohrbaugh have done a phenomenal job extracting tragic emotion out of every nuanced situation available to them. There is so much passion to be felt and lost between the characters, it's simply contagious!!Reply
- Becks tells the story of a struggling singer/songwriter as she copes with dealing with a recent break-up, and end up moving back home to live with her deeply Catholic mother. Inspired by the life of real life indie singer/songwriter Alyssa Robbins. This film also adds a level of musicality throughout, with aid from Robbins for the film's soundtrack. One of my favorite things about this movie are the strong female roles that were held during this film. I think that Lena Hall, the woman who played Becks in the movie did a really awesome job of portraying what true love, and true heartbreak look like, while also being the edgy charismatic lead this film deserved. I think that throughout the movie Ms. Hall definitely delivered when it came to authentic, genuine moments on screen!Reply

- This movie is incredible, and Lena Hall's performance is nothing short of sensational. She's an unbelievable talent!Reply
- Never shying away from reality, Becks features some nice acting from newcomer Lena Hall, whose characters deal with her own demons, but never become stereotypes while reflecting on those. Its a rare romantic movie that takes it times to tell a grounded romance between two lost souls.Reply
