Eerie, creepy, harrowing. Perfect fun entertaining Halloween watch.

Cheap film which came through as a classic with exceptional casting and editing. Sanders rarely disappoints.

The word I'd use to describe Village of the Damned is "eerie." There's an unsettling feeling throughout this whole film, even if it never develops into full-blown terror. It does come off a little silly at some parts, but this is still a unique horror movie that kept me wondering what was going to happen next.

Top notch sci-fi film! Short, taut and riveting in every way. Sanders is fantastic as the star, as are the major players. Yet, what makes this movie so good is the contrast between the realism of the villagers - who come across as if they live in an English village - and the creepy performance of the white-haired children and their hypnotic eyes!

Less is more in a timeless classic.

Being basically the greatest Twilight Zone episode never produced, Village of the Damned truly is a horror classic. Its story is iconic and highly original and although the film is too short and rushed, it is so well plotted, acted and made with terrific effects, excellent dialogue and a superb performance from George Sanders who went against typecasting here and was unusually heroic. The film looks and sounds great and it's filled with a lot of unforgettable scenes.

A classic science-fiction movie, and a good one too. This film is compitent for the time and uses a very eerie atmosphere as well as some eerie, creepy sound effects, and a terrific script. It's definitly one of the classics of British cinema, in general. Recommended !!

The original horror sci-fi movie. Short duration and delivers rather well. In a small British town, suddenly everyone falls asleep at the same time. Michael Gwynn called his brother-in-law George Sanders at that time and the latter fell asleep. Couldn't call through to the town at all, he drove down to check. A police ride into a bus and after crossing the boundary he fell asleep too. Soon the army investigate. A soldier wear a gas mask and go in who also fell asleep. When he awaken he feel cold. An airplane recon fly into the area and crash because the pilot fell asleep. Few hours later everyone awakes. Nothing is wrong with them except soon some women are pregnant including those virgin. The birth are growing at fast rate and those babies born have scary eyes, blonde hair and display great intelligence. Using their death stares, they can make people do things to what they wish and read people's thoughts. George want to do research on them. The army investigate at the same time other places have similar phenomenon and only 1 russian village have survivors and been nurtured well. When a man driving accidentally near hit 1 of those kid, they unite and make the man drive the car to a wall and die. Barbara Shelley who want to protect her son (leader of the gang) denies anything. The victim's brother want to kill them but George manage to stop him. The kids saw the man and control him to shoot himself dead. The kids are all living in a house on their own for George's research. Some men gather to burn them but the kid make one of them burn himself to scare the rest. Michael who has receive information that the village in russia has been blown up by military for fear of their powers. Michael approach his nephew and were told they will self protect for survival and brainwash him to a stalemate. George is been approach by his son they want to escape town and go live in other place in peace. He visit them regularly and one night he keep thinking of a brick wall to block them reading his thoughts when they probe him what he has plan to house them. In his briefcase is a timer bomb and it blows up, killing all inside.

This was a VERY ominous and strange watch in the beginning, with residents of a small town in the UK fainting, and noone knowing why, and then all the females get pregnant! And then?!!?!! Rather spooky and odd, the first half is infinitely better then the first half, when it gets more schlocky. Nothing is really explained though, though I suppose that's the point, to insert your favorite conspiracy here.

An absolute classic. So effective, so well plotted. I think people assume this will be a cheesy movie but it's really not.

The children in Village of the Damned are just as creepy as the poster makes them seem, and the film itself keeps them front and center. Well acted and paced, Village of the Damned manages to balance creepy and fun for an unforgettable experience.

This movie has an amazing setup. Like some of the best episodes of the Twilight Zone, they set the stage with an eerie occurrence and no explanation. An entire town falls into a deep sleep, and no one can enter the town because they will fall asleep as well. The government does their best to figure out what is going on when suddenly everyone in the town starts to wake up. That's the first step, but the second step is even more odd because every fertile woman in the town finds they are pregnant. There was so much they could have done with that premise, particularly when you have virgins struggling to understand how it happened, and military wives who swear to their husbands they did not cheat while the husbands were away. Yet they rush through the pregnancies and suddenly the mother's are basically removed from the story. All attention focuses on these children who have strange and amazing abilities. This is when Village of the Damned completely falls apart for me. It shifts from a great Twilight Zone episode to a really bad one. Suddenly people start over-acting, and behaving illogically. The kids are terrible actors, and the special effects are laughable. The movie loses all emotional impact from the moment these emotionless kids appear. So I was hooked early, but by the end I was detached and ready for it to be over. Not a movie I can recommend, despite the fact that the initial idea was solid.
