6.0 The Liability
Mystery & Suspense, Art House & International
This film is the story of a young guy who only wants to become a hitman, and an old hitman who only wants to retire. They are thrown together on a 'hit' - a day's drive away that will test their patience and tolerance for each other. When they do the job in the forests of Northumberland they realise there's a problem - a young woman witnesses their crime. This is a thrilling and darkly comic portrayal of a son looking for a father, and an older man forced to become a mentor. Throughout this cinematic road trip across the wild North East of England we encounter twists that will reveal a black secret that some people will kill to protect, and some will kill to uncover.

  • A day with a hitman!A typical British dark comedy-thriller. I said that because I loves movies like 'Wild Target', 'I Hired a Contract Killer' and now this one. It gives the pleasure to enjoy those running and chasing and mistakes, sometimes very edgy. This is the story that happens within the 24 hours of a 19 year old carefree Adam. When takes-up the driving job to a hitman, he goes all sorts of difficulties and overcoming it is the remaining narration.Recently, Jack O'Connell is soaring high with the movies like 'Starred Up', '71' and three Academy Award nominee 'Unbroken'. I would say this film is the turning point in his career. In the earlier films he was merely hanging around with his roles, but he showed lots of promise with this one. Now he's the Britain's latest young sensation and Hollywood is showing interest in him. It's just a matter of time to grab his own spot there. It is so sad that from the movie posters to promos are not enthralling and the online ratings for it is too low. But it was twice better than what do you see. Of course it was a slow start, but after the opening few minutes, it was completely a different movie and very entertaining. Obviously not a large budget movie, with a limited cast and a decent story, betters the quality that require to be a laudable product.7/10

  • Amusingly downbeat Brit thriller featuring quality performances from Tim Roth and Peter Mullan.

  • A mixture of good action, killing and romance makes a fun movie. The Liability has some good twists and the story is kept simple enough, but with enough twists to keep you interested in what is going to happen next. I liked Tim Roth in this film, and thought that Peter Mullan played a great bad guy. Overall this is a good film that you should enjoy with some popcorn in your family room on a Friday night.

  • This just about scrapes 3 stars. It is fairly predicatable but enjoyable, the plot weakened as the film progressed and the ending was abit wankish. Tim Roth is the balls but one felt the normally excellent Peter Boyle was way over the top in his small role. A serious twitch off Talulah Riley.
