In this stop-motion-animated film from writer/director Wes Anderson, an outbreak of canine flu in Japan leads all dogs to be quarantined on an island. A boy (voice of Koyu Rankin) journeys there to rescue his dog Spots (Liev Schreiber), and gets help from a pack of misfit canines who have also been exiled. His quest inspires a group of dog lovers to expose a government conspiracy. The voice cast also includes Bryan Cranston, Edward Norton, Bill Murray, Scarlett Johansson, Tilda Swinton, Bob Balaban, Greta Gerwig, and Yoko Ono.

  • Visually delightful, and literarily sublime, Wes Anderson's signature style bodes perfectly to the oeuvre that is Isle Of Dogs. Its play in 4 Acts tells an all-too-familiar 20th Century fable that for some is just too real to not notice, especially in this new age of cultural appropriation and neo-racism. Isle Of Dogs also boasts of a stellar cast of voice actors lead by Bryan Cranston's deep baritone (watch out for Yoko Ono's as well - it is quite refreshing to hear her not scream this time), and coupled with its excellent editing and brilliant stop-motion animation makes for a refreshing break from the overly-saturated superhero blockbuster fare we've been forced-fed to consume of late. Four and a half out of five stars.

  • Outstanding story line and the actors doing the voices of the dogs clearly had fun doing this film. Quirky and sure to be a long running classic.

  • A beautiful combination of stop motion and Japanese art really sets this film apart from others. The story is relatable on many levels and the attention to detail was astounding. There were also some pop culture references scattered about that furthered audience engagement. Wonderful!

  • Oh my god, this might be the best movie i've seen this year (yes, even better than avengers). It has a very basic story, but (personally) the character development and a lot of weird stuff makes it a good movie, i hope it gets the support to keep this kind of work.

  • Wow. Loved this movie. I recommend watching some of the behind the scenes videos on this so you can really appreciate all the effort and meticulous detail that went into each, tiny detail. That alone was an achievement in itself, not to mention the story and script and direction. Very well executed. Go and see...now. :)
