Haunters: The Art Of The Scare is a heart-warming and heart-stopping documentary about how family-friendly haunted houses for Halloween have spawned a growing subculture of extreme horror simulations. What kind of person dedicates their life to turning other people's nightmares into reality, and how far is too far? Explore the rise of terror as entertainment, by going behind-the-screams and into the lives of Shar Mayer, legendary scare actor, Donald Julson, a traditional boo-scare maze designer, and the infamous Russ McKamey, as he creates the most controversial full-contact haunt of all time... in his own backyard. Also featuring John Murdy (Universal Hollywood Halloween Horror Nights), Jon Braver (Delusion), Josh Randall (Blackout), Eric Lowther (Haunted Overload), Bruce Stanton (Reign of Terror), Sylvia & Jen Soska (American Mary & GSN's HELLEVATOR), Jessica Cameron (Truth or Dare) and many more talented artists.

  • Never did I know about the subculture realm of Haunters. Jon Schnitzer unexpectedly but also beautifully lures you into the subculture realm of haunters were you will be drawn eerie close to the creators of a wide range of different haunts. The documentary is well put together and lacks nothing. The cinematography, score, and the 3D graphics, blend scarefully well together.

  • I absolutely loved it. Wanted more more more. I've been in the film industry for 9 years now, this year 1st year as a scare actor and loved it. There is so much passion that comes with scare acting and Shar Mayer is a great represents just that. Loved it . Would love to see the 17th door featured at some point as that haunt is off the hook.

  • Jon Schnitzer's HAUNTERS: THE ART OF THE SCARE is an extremely hilarious and terrifying look into the addicting world of scare acting, homemade haunted houses, and Halloween-themed amusement park events. Personally, I am someone who does not participate in the "enjoyment" of haunted houses. I startle easily, flail my arms and legs, and accidentally hit people. I'm THAT guy. HAUNTERS is an incredible documentary that provided me with a lens into the world of haunter-tainment and gave me an opportunity to experience these haunted houses from afar. Jon Schnitzer directs this film with a whole bunch of passion and knowledge that flows out of the screen and into the eyes, minds, and hearts of those lucky enough to view this gem of a documentary!

  • Out of the 30+ films I saw at Fantastic Fest this year, Haunters the Art of the Scare was easily one of my favorites! Its scary and funny and charming, and I may or may not now work at House of Torment as a haunter because of it. Thank you for inspiring the spookiness!!!!

  • Super fun! This documentary is very interesting, seeing how people put together the best (and insanely intense!!) haunted houses, and all the work that goes into it. The director spent 4 years making the movie, and it shows. This is perfect for Halloween, just what I needed!

  • Wonderfully crafted, superbly told - even if you've never had an interest in being scared, this movie will fascinate you. The stories behind the clever individuals who bring haunts and monsters to life are woven together in a compelling and thrilling tribute to this under-sung art-form.

  • Haunters provided an in depth and intimate look into the lives of amateur and professional "Haunters". This film gives you a delightful taste of just how much literal blood, sweat, and tears goes into assembling the ultimate neighborhood haunted house as well as the ultimate commercial legal torture- fest: Blackout. If you've ever wondered what makes a screen actor tick, or inspires a typical suburban family to put on a haunted house that leaves its guests truly terrified and in some cases mentally scarred for life, Haunters: The Art of the Scare is truly a visual and personal marvel of a documentary! For these families and individuals featured in the doc, there really is art in the scare!

  • Haunters is a freakin blast!! The only thing more fun than a haunted house is watching other people go through a haunted house. And this doc does a great job of seeing a Halloween in the life of the demented but seemingly normal people who put these houses together. It's funny, sad, scary, fascinating and brings up some pretty interesttig moral questions. 10/10!

  • Movies (like haunts right?) are meant to elicit a reaction. To make you feel something. This movie really knocked it out of the park on that level. Money well spent!
