Horror, Mystery & Suspense, Art House & International
A man eager to make amends with his ex-girlfriend stumbles upon a bizarre torture cult in this thriller from Argentinean director Adrian Garcia Bogliano]. After going through a bad breakup, a twenty-something man feels bad about how things ended, and wants to talk with his ex. However, finding her turns out to be difficult and she doesn't answer his messages, so he asks one of his best female friends to lend a hand. Using the IP address from her computer, the friends discover the woman was corresponding with a handsome man and appears to have arranged to meet him at a large house on the outskirts of town. However, a visit to the house makes it clear things were not as they seem from the outside; the home belongs to a pair of aging political radicals who have a large cache of old, decaying dynamite and are putting it to use on a number of unsuspecting young women. Sudor frío (aka Cold Sweat) received its American premiere at the 2011 South by Southwest Film Festival.

  • What the indie horror genre could use more of? Answer: Movies like this one. Not without its faults, COLD SWEAT offers up an explosive(!) viewing experience that does everything right along the way, it just failed to make us care about the characters enough such that high stakes could mean much, much more -- especially during the early and often moments of slow, silent terror, as we listen each drop of sweat hit the potentially life-ending surface for over 90 minutes. Cleverly written and for the most part it's comptently directed. Again, the stakes for our main protagonists are rather low compared to what the antagonists -- who are far more intruiging by the way -- are REALLY trying to achieve. It's well worth the watch for anyone with a penchant for "to the point" horror films. Not over the top with blood and gore, but also not for the sqeamish.

  • Save for the beginning, there's not a boring moment in this modern day version of the French The Wages of Fear. Albeit the plot is quite thin, this leaves room for more suspense and plenty of excellently crafted scenes of horror, action and slowmo explosions.

  • This movie is bonkers! Clever sometimes, idiotic in others. Entertain none the less. It works If you got time to spare.

  • Cold sweat is a great original horror movie about two old men the kidnap people and use nitroglycerin to kill their victims. The director uses camera moves in slow motion and the way home someone blows up from having the nitroglycerin on them. B (2011)

  • A new twist on the torture porn genre, Cold Sweat is a tense thriller that draws upon the history of violence in Argentina for its inspiration. An intelligent, brutal, and gripping film, Cold Sweat keeps you on the edge of your seat but never engages its source material in the critically compelling fashion that it could have. Still, it is a stylish, twisted, and original film that will keep fans of smart horror films engaged throughout its run time.

  • If you like the torture horror thing than this is right up your alley....I on the other hand don't really care for those types of flicks but this one held my intrest enough with some humor and alittle intelligence.

  • Starts off with some history of stolen dynamite. What's that have to do with internet chatting? Oh... An explosive torture flick with some dark humor.

  • A nice little horror movie that you have to go into and just run with it. Don't try to make sense of what they do but just watch. There is an over use of slow motion in this but there are times that are tense. And in that shares the moments of ridiculous and funny when I don't think they were trying for that. An ok watch that you just roll with.

  • Nice little Argentinian horror movie... Who knew nitroglycerin was so volatile? Never seen it used in a horror movie.

  • Very enjoyable tense thriller of communists performing terrible experiments and torture on people in a small city home. Great characters, and villains that are not the normal baddies. Truly wonderful.

  • Roman and his pal break into a seemingly ordinary house looking for his ex-girlfriend whoâ(TM)s gone missing. They find her captive to two elderly revolutionaries whoâ(TM)ve coated her in nitroglycerin â" as you do â" so she doesnâ(TM)t escape. An original genre film from Argentina, Cold Sweat has some bonkers ideas which probably donâ(TM)t add up, but director Adrian Garcia Bogliano carries it off with such exuberance that youâ(TM)re too busy having fun to care. Itâ(TM)s stylish, has a squalling soundtrack and the effects are solid too.
