  • Dark and sincere, Batman: Year One might not be inventive or original for that matter, but its solid voice cast and visuals compensate for most of the way.

  • Amazingly animated and ultra-violent, this dark and rather short film shows how the Batman starts his friendship with Jim Gordon (voiced by Brian Cranston). There is also a side-story about (prostitute) Catwoman's love/hate relationship with the superhero. At times it felt disjointed, but any Batman fan will enjoy.

  • Loved where they were going and could have went with this adaptation of Frank Miller's Year One. It was just way to short, so it fell short of near perfection, but it's still a great looking and really well done animated film.

  • Gordon was good, batman was off and catwoman was not needed at all. Story was solid

  • I thought even with the short run time it drags and never really gets going, Voice cast was strong but none really make the characters their own, Action was done ok but the story was made very dull compared to the comic, Even my kids were bored but it's not one for the kids it's for the hardcore fans, If you liked the comic you will like this as it's very faithful to it but if you haven't read it then you won't enjoy it as much.

  • Great animated batman movie starring the guy from Gotham and Bryan Cranston. When I read the credits and saw Bryan Cranston's name next to Jim Gordon, I had no clue it was him, I thought he was a perfect choice. I wasn't a big fan of the art style this movie had but the story itself is phenomenal.

  • A story still considered holy by fans, it feels a little strange following Batman Begins, which took many elements from the comic this is based on. Unlike the hero's journey in Nolan's film this direct adaptation doesn't dive deep into the psychological and technical aspects of who titular hero and how he came to be. In fact what's striking here is how little we see of not just Batman but Bruce Wayne too, and how little investment we have in them and this is not helped by Ben McKenzie who underwhelms as the Dark Knight. It's also surprising how little we see of Batman's costumed rogue's gallery, a Catwoman with great potential is sorely underused. However, this really a tale about Jim Gordon and the state of a city that requires a caped crusader, we're seeing the appearance of the masked hero through the eyes of an unmasked one and once you adjust to the idea it works wonderfully. Bryan Cranston is a much stronger casting choice and combined with perfect writing and the comic's iconic imagery lovingly transferred panel-for-panel onto the screen, his origin story as Gordon is an extremely compelling one, and one that is rightly revered.

  • This was no where near as good as the book but it was a good try.

  • Batman Year One is not the greatest piece of Animated Cinema, but it most certainly is brilliant! It really was more about Gordon than batman, but in a good way. We don't focus too much solely on batman and his mistakes, rather we see him make a few fumbles here and there, and skip ahead to when we see him getting better and better as being batman during his first year. He starts off with nothing, just a guy, then we see his revelation about using the bat motif as his visage, which felt kind of awkward and unrealistic with a bat crashing through his window the way it did, but each time they redo this part where and when he sees the bat are all non cannon and done differently each time so that does not matter too much. We get to see him with a few gadgets and still making armature moves, and near the end of the movie, we see him more as we know him today, BATMAN. The story of Gordon starting out as a new recruit who transferred into a city full of corrupt politicians and police offers was done really well too! The flow of events between time periods within the year was very well done, not too fast or too slow. The script writing was believable and the writers ability to make you despise the level of corruption and feel for Gordon and what he was trying to do was really excellent as well. If we all though Gotham was badly off with batman doing his vigilante work for years, it was REALLY something to behold before batman had shown up and gordon took over as commissioner since the police were even more brutal than the actual gang members. I did not really like how they included cat woman in there, or how they wrote her as a character. I really feel that this movie would had been far better without her as each scene with her in it as being cat woman or Selena really slowed the pace of the film down, and added a bit of awkwardness to it. It really felt like she had absolutely no right, nor reason to be in the film, other than to add airtime to the film. Nevertheless, it is a great film, with excellent story telling and flow, and the kind of good voice acting that you would expect from a top quality DC animated film. I would give this film at least an 8 minimal out of 10.

  • This was a fairly good adaptation of the amazing graphic novel Batman: Year One.Though the animation wasn't as god as the art from the book, it's still quite good. The story is an excellent and well translated to the screen from the book.A good selection of actors do the voice over work with Bryan Cranston, Eliza Dushku, Ben McKenzie, Alex Rocco, Katee Sackhoff and Stephen Root.Warner Bros. and DC have done an excellent job of making animated movies that are very well done.

  • Batman Year One functions as another 'Batman Begins', and while Batman origin stories are too frequent nowadays, this one hold its own with its modern tint, fluid animation, and an interesting emphasis on Jim Gordon's story, who serves as the audience's proxy and is developed surprisingly well, taking up more screen time that the movie's namesake.

  • Great movie. Because this is an animated project, the creators were able to tell this story properly, and did so with wonderful animation, style, and a talented voice cast that performed their characters well, especially McKenzie and Cranston.

  • Great adaptation of amazing Frank Miller comic book.Gotham city corruption is perfectly displayed to the point that it almost becomes a character in itself. Both Jim Gordon and Batman stories have some great storytelling moments and let's us see a motivation, morals and values of both characters not to mention excellent voice acting by Bryan Cranston and well done action scenes.Strong faithful adaptation and one of the best animation movies that DC have to offer i give this 9/10.
