Animation, Kids & Family, Art House & International
When the African savannah runs dry and water becomes a precious commodity, a courageous meerkat and a laid back lion prepare to go the distance in order to avoid dying of thirst. In seasons past, a single mountain canyon provided enough water for all the creatures in the savannah. But this year, not a drop has fallen. Buffalos and rhinos stand guard over the only watering hole for miles, and if the creatures don't act fast, they will surely perish. Desperate, Billy the meerkat and Socrates the lion set out to find sustenance. Upon crossing paths with a rooster named Charles, the pair learns of a place in the Okavango Delta where the water still flows. But by the time Charles leads them there, the humans have already staked their claim on the small reserve. Meanwhile, local entrepreneur Smith has constructed a dam in order to the precious divert water to his luxury hotel. When Billy and Socrates learn that the hotel is hosting a conference on natural preservation, they call in all of their animal friends in order to teach the thoughtless politicians a thing or two about sharing the land. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

  • It's not the best animated eco-movie ever, especially since the humor's a bit too immature at times and it's a little on the unnecessarily absurd side (we didn't really need a kangaroo and polar bear in Africa, they didn't really change the overall story). That being said, it has a great message (which some might find a bit heavy-handed in the way its handled) and is actually pretty enjoyable and fun, much better than I expected going in - better than the flak it's got would have you thinking it is, if little else.

  • Well I really enjoyed this, goes to show how humans are ruining the earth. Even the lion was a vegetarian! Excellent cast voices, not sure why reviews are so bad

  • Not one of the best when it comes to animation, but I 'm gonna give it a positive because I've definitely seen worse. The story follows a band of animals that must work together to find water to restore their homeland. They discover that in a nearby valley, humans have built a large dam to hold the water. Led by a meerkat named Billy and a lion named Socrates, the animals try to find a way to release the water. It is a surprisingly good family film with a good message we all need to learn. I would recommend this movie for families with young children. It is quite silly and fun to watch.

  • Much like most animated films that were made in Germany, Italy, or any country in most of Europe, this isn't exactly a great or good movie. But to be fair, it's probably the most entertaining and most enjoyable of the ones from the film festivals. A somewhat decent flick. Nothing more, nothing less.

  • First of all, let me point out that this is mainly an ENVIRONMENTAL film. That's clearly the message this movie is trying to send...that every decision we, as humans, make effect the environment and the creatures living in it in some way. When several animals never even been around Africa lose their homes due to human action, they converge together and end up in Africa, where they meet up with Billy the Meerkat (who has to be a relative of Timon, he's just like him) and Socrates the Lion (who has turned from a carnivore to a vegetarian all because of one experience that killed his brother...when they went to an ELEPHANT GRAVEYARD - again with the Lion King reference!). The animals in Africa haven't received their yearly water cascade, so they go on a lengthy mission to find it. Lo and behold, humans have dammed up the water so that they can have it for their own luxury resort. With a united effort (as the movie's title implies), the group overcomes all odds (and one maniacal Hunter) to break the dam and return nature's peace to normal (as Socrates' sole goal in life mentions). This is a film you might be confused by at first with all the characters being thrown at you at once, but as the story goes along, it all comes together to teach its message. "Animals United" may not be realistic in the fact that all the animals wouldn't start a revolution, but the message comes across the same that we need to have a heart (just like the big business man's daughter, Mya), because we're not the only ones sharing the Earth.

  • Animals United. I saw it during spring break and i liked it. the score by David Newman is awesome, the characters were creative, the settings were cool and overall it's an enjoyable movie. why would people say it's bad. they need to see the Hungarian film Vuk to understand the art of other countries doing films.
